My top 5 holiday empties

My holiday empties

Just in case you can’t guess from my arty pool picture, I call it the floating beauty empties, I’ve just got back from a very hot – nearly two weeks – in Majorca.

And, rather than give you the lowdown of the new AW/13 beauty trends, I thought you might be interested in what sun care products my little family used and finished every last drop of on holiday. Here goes…

1 Nivea Sun Protect & Refresh SPF30, £8.49, the OH and myself used this from stepping off the plane and we didn’t burn once.

2 Soltan’s Once Kids 8 Hour Play Suncare Lotion, SPF50, £15.99 currently £7.99, applied on the kids and on my heat rash before we hit the beach everyday and the protection lasted pretty much till the second long stint in the sea.

3 Lancaster Sun For Kids Invisible Mist Wet Skin SPF50, £21, perfect for spritzing on the kids while on the beach as it works even if they’re still wet and it dries in seconds. Quick – tick. Clear – tick. Posh – tick.

4 Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Sun Defense Stick SPF50 High Protection, £15, a total unsung beauty hero as this little stick makes it easy to cover vulnerable areas and does not melt or crumble in the heat, which trust me, a lot of other sun care sticks do, do!

5 Garnier Ambre Solaire Sensitive Advanced Face & Body After Sun, £9.99, don’t be put off by the ‘Sensitive’ tag as this after sun is amazing and can be used by the whole family. How can I tell? Erm, this was the one holiday product that you had to fight to get your hands on!

Want to try my fast beach body fix?

This is how it goes every year for me, I leave the beach body prep to the last minute and then panic, realising that I’m not going to look like Gwyneth Paltrow in a bikini any time soon.

So, I thought it might be useful to share my last minute holiday prep, as if you’re anything like me you wouldn’t have done quite enough Spin classes to give you the type of beach body that you want!

About a month before I go away I start, what I call, my scrubbing and rubbing bootcamp. I slather my body from head to toe while in the shower with a good body scrub, and by good I mean one that actually has enough grit in it so that your skin slightly hurts when you use it. That’s what everyone wants a scrub to do, right?

My current go-to scrub is the new Elemis Skin Nourishing Body Scrub, £28.50, which contains natural exfoliators of rice, bamboo and bora bora sand to polish the skin and sweet almond oil and organic oat extract to nourish the skin.

It’s not at the cheaper end of the market but it works and is even rough enough to transform ugly feet into Instagram ready feet, which believe me isn’t the case with a majority of body scrubs.

Then, I admit it, I use a cellulite busting lotion and this year I’ve been using the new Clarins Body Lift Cellulite Control, £36. And again I think you do get what you pay for in this beauty area. I’ve been using this one for over four weeks now and my legs definitely look better than they did and the dreaded cellulite appears to be smoother.

Ok, I won’t quite look as hot as Gwynnie on the beach, but my skin does look smoother, more even toned and less bumpy – which is good enough for me.

Although, next year I’m going to have Tracy Anderson on speed dial – anyone got her number?

Summer’s best sunscreens

No, I haven’t lost my mind. I know that the sky has been grey for the last few days but my little weather app assures me we’re in for a sunny spell.

Come on, Apple, is never wrong and after seeing lots of people at Glastonbury (sadly I wasn’t there I just watched hours of it on the BBC) with sore red patches of skin, I decided I needed to do a post about what I think is this year’s best new sun protection.

Firstly say hello to Nivea’s new Sun Protect & Refresh Cooling Mist SPF30, £15.40 but currently £8.49 on boots.com. It’s the first aerosol sunscreen from Nivea and it’s seriously good. In fact it’s so good it’ll be coming on holiday with me this year.

SPF30

I used it over the weekend and honestly, it delivered everything I’ve ever wanted from a sunscreen spray. It sprayed at all angles, it spritzed a fine mist that only needed one swipe of my hand to rub it in, it wasn’t sticky and I didn’t burn. TICK.

Now, I know all mums are going to be with me on this, applying sun lotion on kids is a pain because a) they don’t stand still b) they don’t want you to rub it in c) they think the whole process is BORING.

So, my next best sun protection spray is, Lancaster’s new Sun for Kids Invisible Mist Wet Skin SPF50, £21. I wouldn’t usually recommend a premium priced kiddie product but this is genius. It sprays clear, can be applied directly onto wet skin and doesn’t leave a trace of residue.

Let me reiterate, a sunscreen for kids that you can apply quickly onto wet skin, that doesn’t leave a residue, gives instant protection against UVA and UVB rays and the kids don’t complain, trust me, it doesn’t get any better. Oh hang a minute it does, it has the distinctive Lancaster smell too.

Sod the kids – I’ll be using it!

Best fake tan

Kate Moss naked for St Tropez

To say I’m slightly jealous of how damn hot Kate Moss looks, naked, in her new campaign pictures for St Tropez is an understatement.

But hey, we’re the same age so if I get my fake tan on I’m going to look just as good, right? Well, that is what I was telling myself when the pictures of Kate Moss naked popped into my inbox.

So, what was the first thing I did when I got home? Find my trusty bottle of St Tropez Self Tan Dark Mousse, £33 and slather it on.

Now, I know what you’re thinking, DARK! Trust me this is the best fake tan I have ever used, all you have to do is apply a thin layer with a mitt to get a realistic, natural, glow.

If you’re looking to buy a new fake tan, give this one a try – I can’t promise it’ll make you look like Kate Moss but I know you’ll love the results!
