The best new season nude lipstick

Image
Nars Satin Lip Pencil in Isola Bella £17.50

If the new beauty season has taught me anything it’s that no matter how many trend reports tell me that a deep burgundy lipstick will be my AW/13 must have, if Kate Moss and Cara Delvingne go out wearing a nude lip look – that’s going to be my new choice of lippy shade.

However, we all know finding a nude lipstick that doesn’t make you look as washed out as all those poor fashionistas going to NYFW/LFW/MFL/PFW without a break, is harder than getting on the FROW.

Aah, to save you the hard work I have actually found the perfect nude lipstick. It’s a kinda peachy, beige with a tiny hint of orange, that has got loads of pigment so gives amazing coverage, say hello to Nars Satin Lip Pencil in Isola Bella, £17.70.

Promise it’ll give you that nude lip look that everyone has been wearing both on and off the catwalks – you can thank me later!

The teen beauty drama

I was very lucky to get a sneaky peak of Rimmel’s AW/13 make-up collection this week and there are some gorgeous products coming your way…just not yet!

Now, you know I don’t like talking about products that you can’t buy now, but I thought you’d like to know Miss T’s top picks from the new collection, including a good black eye liner that’s already in the shops.

Because, erm, she’s a bit of a make-up magpie, as soon as I walked in the front door with the bag of not-in-the-shops-yet-make-up – Miss T had delved in to check out the goodies.

She’s been asking me for ages to show her how to do a simple smoky eye, so it’s no surprise that she pulled out these products:

Rimmel Glameyes HD Eye Shadow in Golden Eye, £6.99 available from 2nd October

Rimmel Retro Glam Extreme Black Mascara, £6.99 available from 2nd October

Rimmel Scandaleyes Eye Shadow Stick in Blackmail, £4.49 out now

And I, yes I, who is not a make-up artist, showed Miss T how to use the products. Firstly I used the eye shadow palette and swept the silver over the whole of Miss T’s eyelid, then I blended in the lighter grey shadow over the lower eyelid before popping the gold in the inner eye corners.

I finished the look by drawing a line of the black shadow stick along the upper and lower lash lines, smudged with a brush so it didn’t look too harsh and coated curled lashes with mascara.

Miss T really liked the look and I have to say the new HD Eye Shadow palettes are brilliant with wearable colours and an amazing pigment payoff – there’s even application instructions on the back so teen queens everywhere can create their own smoky eyes! Are. You. Listening. Miss T?

Miss T’s show time make up kit

Sometimes you have to admit that you were wrong and on Friday night I had to hold my hands up and tell Miss T that she was right and I was way off!

You see on the hottest weekend of the year Miss T was about to perform in her dance school’s show at the local theatre, and as you can imagine what make up she took into the dressing room, was a big deal.

So, on Friday night at, oh about 6pm when most shops were CLOSED (why do teens do that?) Miss T informed that she needed a face powder and the only one she wanted was the MUA one that all her friends had.

That told me. Of course, being curious to see what the big deal was with the latest teen must-have, I took her to buy the ‘in’ beauty product and guess what? It was £1.

I know you’re all thinking what I said: ‘It must be rubbish for a quid.’

Do you know what, I have been totally proved wrong, the MUA Pressed Powder is amazing, for £1. It was the perfect colour for Miss T, it looked natural and it kept Miss T shine free on the stage.

Hands up, I was wrong and it’s taught me that I need to take note of the more affordable make up ranges out there. And I intend to.

In case you’re interested here’s what was in Miss T’s show time make up bag:

MUA Pressed Powder, £1

Rimmel Scandal Eyes Waterproof Kohl Liner, £3.99

Max Factor Clump Defy Volumising Mascara, £10.99

The Body Shop LL Cruelty Free Blusher Brush, £8

Rimmel Kate Matte Lipstick in 101, £5.49

Get a good Glasto glow job with this

Soap & Glory Glow Job, £11

While I like to switch my foundation habits from season to season, my friend is devoted to just one tinted moisturiser all year round.

I know I don’t understand it either but hey if that works for her then who am I to tell her otherwise.

The only problem with this little beauty habit is, what happens when said product can’t be found anymore? You panic and phone your friend in the beauty know to find out why it’s disappeared.

Admittedly this did happen earlier in the year and the product, Estee Lauder Sheer Tint Release Moisturizer SPF15, £36, is now back on sale but wasn’t around for a while because of some manufacturing problems.

The point? Soap & Glory are just about to re-launch Glow Job, £11 within their totally overhauled range and it delivers exactly the same results as the Estee Lauder one.

It even has the same micro popping beads that release the colour tint when you blend it into skin. Genius.

I just wish I knew about it months ago because then I would have been able to give my friend some useful beauty advice. Oh well, next time!

The best orange lipstick for summer

Models own Coral Kiss Lip Stix, £5

I got quite upset this week when I realised I’d lost my favourite orange lipstick. No really. You see it was irreplaceable as it was a limited edition one from about six months ago that was so amazing it sold out everywhere.

What to do? Crying wasn’t an option as I’d just applied the rest of my make-up to go to Ladies Day at Ascot and my mascara needed to stay put. I had to find a new one…quickly!

Luckily, I’d just been sent a selection of the new Models own Lip-Stix, £5, which nourish lips and deliver an amazing colour that has the best sheen/matte finish I’ve seen in a while.

Say hello to my new favourite orange lippy…Coral Kiss Lip-Stix. Try it, you may like it too.

This bronzer is magic

Bourjois Bronzing Primer, £9.99

Where are you getting your glow? Obviously with this joke of a summer it’s not the sun, and if like me you don’t like applying fake tan to your face it’s got to be from a bronzer, right?

And there is the problem as it’s very hard to find the right bronzer, or is it just me who struggles? I like one that gives a natural colour, with a slight matte effect and absolutely no glittery bits.

Tall order, hey? Well Bourjois have delivered with this new Bronzing Primer, £9.99. With an interesting mousse like texture, it smooths skin and gives a natural tanned effect.

As it looks like summer is going to carry on playing this unfunny joke on us, I suggest faking a summer glow with this genius bronzer – I know that’s what I’m going to be doing starting today.

Revealed: Jessie J’s lipstick on The Voice

Jessie J on The Voice

No one can argue that Jessie J does a good lip and tonight her make up artist, Karin Darnell, chose exactly the right red for Jessie J to wear on the first live show of The Voice.

Not too dark, a slightly matt finish and powerful enough to stay put through a two hour live show, it couldn’t be any brand other than…MAC.

Oh, you want to know what shade it is? Jessie’s fab make up artist @Karindarnell knows exactly what her fans want and tweeted the shade: ‘Tonight’s @BBCTheVoiceUK @JessieJ is wearing @MACcosmetics Russian Red lipstick @EylureOfficial lashes @DiorEurope base and blush! Yay!’

Your new favourite lip gloss

Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector in 06

Admit it, you’re always looking for the best nude lip gloss.

In fact you even ask perfect strangers what lippy they’re wearing, or if you’re me you ask Kim Kardashian what nude lip gloss she is wearing…it was MAC if you’re interested.

You see, nothing (not even a celebrity) stands in the way of us ladies finding the perfect nude lip gloss that is:

a) Glossy not gloopy

b) Looks like caramel

c) Softens lips with shea butter

d) Can be applied on the go

Ah, I can tick all those boxes for you, with my new favourite lip gloss, Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector, £17 in 06 Rosewood Shimmer.

Rosewood Shimmer

You can’t see from the picture but it has something called ‘3D Radiance’ a pigment that optically smooths lips, to create a natural gloss finish.

Sounds complicated, in fact it delivers a lip look that has shimmer with no sparkly bits so lips look really shiny without looking or feeling like you’re wearing lip gloss. Genius.

It also has, wait for it, a sponge-tip applicator that allows you to slick on just the the right amount without having to look in a mirror.

I know, you probably don’t need another nude lip gloss but I really think this will be the ‘ONE’. But if you’ve already found the ‘ONE’ I’d love you to tell me what it is?
